he Lagos Polo Club is in high spirits as the highly anticipated 2025 NPA/GTCO Lagos International Polo Tournament gallops off on February 4, 2025. This year’s edition boasts a record-breaking participation of 33 teams, all vying for supremacy across four major trophies and six subsidiary prizes in what promises to be a thrilling three-week polo spectacle.
With a formidable mix of foreign professionals and top-tier Argentine horses, teams will compete for The Silver Cup, The Lagos Low Cup, The Open Cup, and the prestigious Majekodunmi Cup, the tournament’s grandest prize. Additionally, the competition will feature subsidiary laurels, including the Oba of Lagos Cup, Governor’s Cup, Adedapo Ojora Memorial Cup, Sani Dangote Cup, Italian Ambassador’s Cup, Independence Cup, Lagos Heritage Cup, Chief of Naval Cup, and the Owen Bowl.
The highly esteemed Majekodunmi Cup will take center stage from February 11-16, 2025, with four elite teams—Lagos Art Hotel, Lagos Shoreline, Lagos STL, and Abuja Rubicon—battling for ultimate glory. The final week of the tournament will showcase a thrilling contest for the Low Cup, featuring teams from major polo centers across Nigeria.
Speaking at a world press conference to herald the 2025 edition, Tournament Manager Olumayowa Ogunnisi expressed excitement about the event, emphasizing the thrilling experience that awaits sponsors, partners, and polo enthusiasts. Lagos Polo Captain, Mohammed Dangote, further revealed that professional players from Argentina, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, along with top-tier umpires, will also grace the competition, ensuring a high standard of play throughout the tournament.

As the oldest polo tournament in Africa, dating back to the early 1900s, the Lagos International Polo Tournament continues to be a premier event, bringing together the best of the sport for an exhilarating showcase of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.
