The leadership of Eko Club, one of Africa’s foremost socio-cultural organizations, has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Mojisola Meranda.
During a courtesy visit to the Speaker at her office in Alausa, Ikeja, the club’s president, AbdulRasak Amodu, led a delegation that pledged the club’s commitment to the progress of Lagos and its support for Meranda’s leadership.
Describing the visit as a homecoming, Amodu highlighted the club’s deep-rooted connection to Lagos, noting that its membership spans all divisions of the state.
“This is more than just a visit; it is a homecoming. Among us are princes, princesses, and true sons and daughters of Lagos. Eko Club stands as the voice of Lagosians, uniting eminent personalities from across the state,” he stated.
He lauded Meranda’s historic appointment as the first female Speaker of the Assembly and assured her of the club’s unwavering backing.
“In Lagos, we are privileged to have a Speaker who is not only a proud daughter of the soil but also a visionary leader. We encourage you to stay focused, as the expectations of Lagosians are high.
“We desire an Assembly that fosters a harmonious relationship with other arms of government, and as Eko Club, we will serve as a bridge between the people and leadership, providing necessary feedback,” Amodu added.
In response, Speaker Meranda expressed deep appreciation for the club’s support and acknowledged its significant contributions to the development of Lagos.
“I am truly grateful for this visit and the overwhelming show of support. Your presence here means a lot, and I do not take it for granted,” she said.
She reassured the delegation that, with the backing of her colleagues and the Assembly’s staff, she remains committed to fulfilling her responsibilities.
“By God’s grace, I will not disappoint you, I will not disappoint Lagos, and most importantly, I will not disappoint my gender,” she affirmed.
