Ikoyi Club 1938 Celebrates Anniversary

The prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938, a leading socio-cultural and recreational hub in Nigeria, has outlined an exciting agenda to mark its 86th anniversary. Established through the merger of the European Club and Lagos Golf Club on September 29, 1938, the club has remained a cornerstone of recreation with various sections including tennis, swimming, squash, table tennis, badminton, and more.

This year’s celebration, themed “Ikoyi Club: Repositioning for the Modern Age,” kicked off with a symposium featuring the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamza, as the keynote speaker. The symposium set the tone for the weeklong activities, reflecting on leadership, governance, and how these principles align with the club’s ongoing transformation.

Vice Chairman of the club and head of the anniversary planning committee, Rufai Ladipo, shared how the Deputy Governor’s message on leadership resonated deeply with the club’s theme of modernization. “As we celebrate this milestone, we look back on our achievements with pride, while positioning ourselves for a future of even greater excellence in Nigeria’s evolving socio-recreational landscape,” he noted.

Rufai also emphasized the club’s unwavering commitment to maintaining its high standards. “We are taking steps today to ensure that Ikoyi Club remains a beacon of admiration and satisfaction for our growing membership base, positioning ourselves for future growth and continued excellence.”

Club Chairman, Tafa Zibiri-Aliu, echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in the club’s legacy and its attraction of new members. With over 3,000 people eager to join, Zibiri-Aliu reaffirmed the club’s status as Africa’s premier socio-cultural club, boasting eight different activity sections. He reiterated that while the club is expanding, its world-class facilities and high standards will never be compromised.

The anniversary celebrations will continue with a series of exciting events, including an award night to honor staff on Thursday, a children’s party on Saturday, and a grand gala night on Sunday. The festivities will reflect both the rich history and the dynamic future of Ikoyi Club 1938, ensuring that members and guests alike enjoy a memorable celebration of this historic milestone.
