The leadership of Lagos Country Club’s squash section has reaffirmed their dedication to squash development in Nigeria, particularly focusing on empowering women in the sport. Squash was first introduced to Nigeria in the 1970s through efforts by the Nigeria Squash Federation and various sports associations and clubs, including the Professional Squash Association and Nigeria Squash Professional Association. These organizations have played crucial roles in fostering the growth and popularity of squash nationwide.


Lagos Country Club, known for its diverse membership from different backgrounds, provides a platform for leisurely play and competitive matches at its facility in Ikeja GRA. During a recent event celebrating their one-day chairman, Akingbade Adekola, the club’s commitment to supporting women in squash was reiterated.
Adekola emphasized the challenges women face in embracing squash due to its physical demands but highlighted the section’s efforts to encourage female participation through organized tournaments and involving family members like wives and children, fostering a sense of community and bonding.


The chairman of the squash section, Semoore Badejo, highlighted the importance of ongoing tournaments in improving players’ world rankings. The club hosts the Professional Squash Association tournament, a significant event that contributes to the rankings of professional players nationally. Additionally, they organize invitational tournaments that engage squash clubs across Nigeria, contributing to player development across different age groups.


The recent inclusion of squash as an Olympic sport has further motivated the club to aim for greater achievements in the future, reflecting their vision of advancing squash both competitively and inclusively.
