The prestigious 2025 Shell/NNPC Tennis Tournament, which served off on Thursday, May 1 at the Ikoyi Club 1938, is gathering momentum as it enters a crucial phase today, May 5.
This year’s edition has drawn over 80 passionate players competing across several keenly contested categories, including Men’s Singles (A and B divisions), Ladies’ Singles, Veterans’ Singles, Super Veterans’ Singles, and an exciting Team Event.

Tennis Section Captain, Ehiz Uwague, expressed optimism about the level of competition as the tournament progresses into its most exciting rounds.
“We’re now entering the business end of the tournament. The matches are becoming more competitive, and we expect some standout performances. As the group stage intensifies, I anticipate even more gripping showdowns as players fight to secure their spots in the final rounds,” he remarked.

So far, the tournament has delivered thrilling encounters, notably a sensational comeback win by Stephen Ezeagu and a resilient victory by Uwague himself.
With players in top form, spectators are in for a treat between today and Wednesday, as the matches promise heightened drama and elite-level tennis.

Tonight’s schedule is packed with excitement as N. Etomi goes up against J. Ojo, O. Oluwawenimo faces L. Talabi, and E. Adebayo squares off with E. Ejehi. Another anticipated clash will see Kallada Kienka take on O. Oti. Other key matchups include E. Uwague vs. A. Farinu, P. Udoetuk vs. H. Etomi, and A. Mustafa vs. M. Sule.

Following the singles showdowns, the Team Event will bring even more adrenaline. The Tennis Section will battle the Badminton Section, while the Swimming Section takes on the Squash Section in Red Group action. Meanwhile, in the Blue Group, the Billiards and Snooker Section will lock horns with the Aerobics Section, and the Table Tennis Section will challenge the Golf Section.

The tournament will reach its grand finale on Saturday, May 10, with champions to be crowned in each category after a week of intense and exhilarating tennis action.
