IBB Golf Club Hosts Banjo Obaleye Captain’s Cup 2024

The IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja is gearing up for a series of events to mark the end of Captain Banjo Obaleye’s tenure. Dubbed the 2024 Captain Banjo Obaleye’s Cup, the program kicked off with activities like staff and caddies’ games, tennis matches, and a Pros tournament. It continued with tennis quarterfinal matches and is set to feature a special kitty, tennis semifinals for double matches, and the main Captain’s Cup with prize presentations and a gala night on Saturday.


Over 500 golfers are expected to participate in the stroke-play event across the par 72 IBB golf course. The tournament will cater to various handicap indexes and veteran categories, along with tennis finals for veterans, men’s doubles, and ladies’ matches.
Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Chairman of the organizing committee, highlighted the event’s significance in leaving a lasting legacy at the club. He emphasized that the tournament adheres to international best practices and aims to elevate the club’s profile.


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delegated Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, to tee off the tournament on his behalf. Outgoing captain Dr. Banjo Obaleye expressed pride in the progress made during his tenure, particularly in addressing structural issues within the club. He also announced plans for an endowment fund to support youth golf development, showcasing the club’s commitment to nurturing talent and expanding the sport’s reach.
