When completed, the Integrated Golf Range under construction by the Ikeja Golf Club will be the most interesting range in the whole of Nigeria.
The idea in itself is model; an architectural feat that on its own is capable of driving golfers and newbies to the range.
With completion set for six months, the state-of-the-art facility is smartly carved out of the challenging but tight nine-hole golf course of the 55-year old Ikeja Golf Club.
The model range is set over the club’s car park, so as players set out to shoot balls, they are greeted with a long line of cars parked underneath.
This initiative is compelling because Ikeja Golf Club located in the city center of the most populated city in Africa, is the most used course in Lagos Mainland. Urban development wouldn’t allow the golf club to expand further hence the need to be imaginative in pursuit of expansion and development.
Speaking excitedly about the project, Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Sina Akinyemi, said: “The integrated golf range is the legacy of my administration. It has a completion date of six months and in less than seven weeks of construction we have achieved tremendous work.”
Akinyemi announced that this year’s edition of Ikeja Club Championship, which is their pinnacle competition, will tee off Monday, and will coincide with the first phase commissioning of the legacy project started by the incumbent committee.
“By the time we are leaving in six months’ time, the project would have been completed and handed over to the club and that would be our legacy.
“It is a state-of-the-art facility that will improve golfing experience for members of the club, and everyone. This project is set to place the golf club on the map of the golf world,” he added.
