Founded on January 23, 1950, the Lagos Motor Boat Club stands as one of Nigeria’s most esteemed members-only boat clubs. This renowned boat club has evolved into a prestigious establishment with a rich
cultural heritage. Housed in an iconic colonial-era building at Wilmott Point, the Lagos Motor Boat Club offers more than just a membership – it presents a cultural haven for those who appreciate the finer things in life. The architecture, adorned with nautical themes, encapsulates the essence of maritime serenity, featuring a
wood-panelled bar adorned with a boat wheel centrepiece. The roots trace back to the Tarpon Club, established in 1938 for fishermen, which later expanded to include leisure boating. Despite facing challenges, the Lagos Motor Boat Club’s commitment to common sense and its members’ camaraderie have enabled it not only to endure but thrive.
Leadership tussle had buffeted the club a few years back when a member, Babajide Coker had gone to court seeking to sack the club’s trustees over his exclusion from the club’s 2020 election. He was seeking a re-election which was opposed by some other members. Peace gradually returned after a long-drawn battle spanning a couple of years.

Noteworthy personalities, including Africa’s wealthiest man, Paddy Adenuga, son of Otunba Mike Adenuga, frequent the Ikoyi-based Lagos Boat Club.
